Bupa care home in Lancashire to take part in ‘memory walk’ fundraiser

Staff at a Bupa-managed care home in Leigh, Lincolnshire are to take part in a memory walk to raise money for people living with dementia.

Staff and residents of Bupa’s Bedford Nursing and Residential Home have organised a memory walk – a sponsored community event to raise money for vital research and care.

The home is urging people to join in and take part in the event, which starts at 11am from the care home on Battersby Street on Monday.

Care home manager Joanne Goodwin said: “We are all in the process of getting our walking boots, and sticks, at the ready.

“Memory walk is a worthy cause for local people to get involved with and I’m sure everyone, no matter what their age, will have a great time at these fun, social events. We hope as many people as possible will join us to take part.”

Following the walk, which is part of the Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk initiative and the charity’s biggest annual fundraising event in partnership with Bupa Care Services, there will be a medal presentation and party.

Siobhan Drane, Bupa Care Services’ partnerships manager, said: “Research tells us that many older people don’t do enough physical activity and that the loss of strength and stamina related to ageing is partly caused by reduced physical activity.

“So not only will these walking events help those living with dementia, but they will also benefit our residents and more mature people of the community from a health perspective.”

Last year, more than 160 of its care homes organised walks, making a significant contribution to the £1.4 million raised in total by the initiative.
