Wincanton has donated the cash to Errol House, a six-bedroom respite care home which provides short breaks for people with disabilities.

The home, in Boston Spa, is part of the Wilf Ward Family Trust, which is one of Wincanton’s chosen charities for 2011/2012.

Barbara Dowling, who works at Errol House, said: “The Wilf Ward Family Trust at Errol House is extremely grateful for such a generous donation from Wincanton.

“All fundraising monies raised this year are being used to complete the sensory garden and the outdoor area at Errol House, which will be beneficial for all the guests who come to us for their short breaks.”

Staff from Wincanton presented the cheque to staff and users at the care home.

The Sherburn depot, which is owned by Sainsbury’s, has been actively fundraising for charity during the last financial year.

Over the past few years, it has helped with things such as painting the Sherburn Scout Hut. It has also raised money for the Peter Pan Nursery in Sherburn and Sophie Michelle’s Fund, which is in aid of a baby girl from the village who was born blind.
