Takeover of Solar Care means that Voyage Care increases provision to 363 care homes and 2,369 bed spaces

Care provider Voyage Care has bought rival Solor Care from Barclays Ventures, Royal Bank of Scotland and the company’s management team. Solor Care operates from head offices in Bath and Surrey.

The deal has been funded with existing cash and a further injection of equity from Voyage’s majority shareholders HgCapital and SL Capital Partners. It adds 92 care homes to its existing portfolio.

From 23rd April the well-respected specialist care provider Solor Care (Solor) has become part of Voyage Care (Voyage). The addition of Solor’s 92 services will make our expanded company the UK’s clear market leader in supporting people with learning disabilities, with 363 services offering 2,369 beds.

Solor provides high quality care and support to people with complex needs and has a particularly strong reputation for supporting people with autism.

Its 92 services offer a mix of residential care, supported living, daycare and outreach. Their acquisition will consolidate our existing services in the North, Midlands and South, while extending our presence in the South East of England, where one third of Solor’s services are located.

As well as increasing our capacity in residential and supported living services, the acquisition will broaden Voyage’s offering to include children’s services and higher acuity nursing settings.

The day to day lives of individuals supported by Solor will not be affected by the acquisition, as they will continue to receive the same high quality care and support from the staff team they know. Our consistent focus is ensuring the individuals we support are at the centre of everything we do. Likewise, the acquisition will have no impact on the people we already support, who will continue to receive the highest standards of care for which we constantly strive.

Commenting on the news, Voyage’s chief executive Bruce McKendrick said: “Voyage’s business growth and its reputation have been underpinned by an unwavering focus on our people and the quality of care we provide. This is wholly consistent with Solor’s approach and is why we are so excited by this acquisition. It allows more people to benefit from the high quality care Voyage provides and broadens the career opportunities for our people.”
